Story

Violet mica through ancient pegmatite

Bands and clouds of purple lepidolite travel across pale quartz and feldspar in this substantial natural pegmatite slab. The polished face reveals the contrast beautifully: soft violet mica, creamy mineral fields and scattered translucent honey-grey grains arranged in an entirely natural abstract composition.

Lepidolite is a lithium-rich member of the mica family, best known for its lilac, pink and violet colouring and its fine pearly shimmer. It commonly forms in evolved granitic pegmatites alongside quartz, albite and potassium feldspar.

One broad display face has been cut and polished, while the reverse remains raw and natural. The irregular perimeter also retains the character of the original stone. Natural fissures, cleavage surfaces, pits, colour variation and rough edges are inherent features of the specimen rather than defects. The exact slab photographed is the piece you will receive.

Details

  • Material: purple lepidolite-series mica in quartz–feldspar pegmatite
  • Colour: lilac, violet, cream, white, grey and translucent honey tones
  • Weight: approximately 447 g
  • Size: approximately 17–18 cm at the longest visible point
  • Finish: one broad polished display face; raw natural reverse and irregular edges
  • Quantity: one unique specimen
  • Display stand: not included unless otherwise stated
  • Care: lepidolite is a relatively soft mica; handle carefully, keep dry, and avoid knocks, abrasive cleaning, chemicals and prolonged direct sunlight

Mineral note

“Lepidolite” describes a series of lithium-rich micas rather than a single visually distinguishable species. Confirming the precise mica composition would require laboratory analysis. This specimen is therefore conservatively described as lepidolite-series mica in a quartz–feldspar pegmatite matrix.

Photography

Styled gallery backgrounds have been digitally replaced to reflect the Deep Time Atelier visual language. The slab itself has not been intentionally redesigned. Lighting and screen settings can affect perceived colour.
