The shark behind the tooth

Otodus obliquus was an extinct mackerel shark. Its large teeth are striking remnants of a marine predator that lived long before modern seas took their present form. The Australian Museum describes the species as potentially reaching around 9 metres in length; this is a species-level estimate, not a size estimate for the individual represented by this tooth.
