Across this substantial piece of natural common opal, dark dendritic formations branch through fields of mustard yellow, muted blue-grey and warm ochre. Their tree-like shapes are mineral deposits—not fossil plants—formed as mineral-bearing fluids moved through fine fractures in the stone.

The patterned face remains framed by a rugged red-brown matrix, creating a beautiful tension between the specimen’s intricate interior and its weathered natural exterior. Viewed from a distance it has the presence of a miniature landscape; up close, the branching structures dissolve into extraordinarily fine detail.

This is an individual natural specimen. Fissures, irregular edges, matrix, pits and variations in surface texture are inherent to the piece and are part of its geological character. The specimen shown is the exact piece you will receive.

ABOUT THE DENDRITES

The dark, plant-like markings are naturally occurring mineral dendrites, commonly associated with manganese oxides. They resemble tiny trees or ferns but are inorganic formations rather than fossil vegetation.
