A polished petrified wood specimen from the Henry Mountains region of Utah, USA, displaying warm golden-grey mineral colour and contrasting dark brown lines across the cut face.

Petrified wood forms when buried timber is protected from decay and mineral-rich groundwater gradually fills or replaces its organic tissues. The original wood disappears, but grain, cellular structure and growth features can remain preserved in stone.

This specimen has been cut and polished across one broad face to reveal its internal pattern, while the irregular natural outer edge retains the character of the original material. The intersecting darker lines create a striking, almost botanical design across the softly coloured surface.
