Dinosaur Gem Bone

Dinosaur gem bone is the name commonly given to fossilised dinosaur bone whose internal structure has been mineralised over geological time. Under the right conditions, mineral-rich groundwater moved through the bone, replacing or filling its microscopic spaces while preserving the distinctive cellular pattern as stone.

When the material is carefully cut and polished, those structures can appear as intricate cells, lines and mosaics. The colours and contrasts come from the minerals present during fossilisation, which is why no two pieces display exactly the same pattern.

Natural history revealed in colour

Deep Time Atelier selects dinosaur gem bone for visible structure, colour and material character. The collection may include polished pieces, rough material and slabs intended for display, collecting or lapidary work.

Clear information, without assumptions

Individual listings state the known locality, geological formation, estimated age, dimensions, weight and stabilisation status where that information is available. If a scientific identity or provenance detail is not documented, we do not invent it. Exact-item listings show the specific piece supplied.
